Privacy Policy for Private OCR&Translate

Private OCR&Translate is designed as a privacy-first translation app. This policy explains what data the app processes and how it is handled.
1. Data processed by the app
Private OCR&Translate may process text that you type, text recognized from images, images selected by you, photos taken with the camera, translation history, app settings, language settings, and optional cloud translation settings, such as a DeepL API key.
2. Local processing
When you use local translation or local OCR features, text and images are processed on your device. Local translation history and app settings are stored only on your device.
3. Optional DeepL translation
If you choose DeepL as a translation engine, the text you translate is sent directly from your device to DeepL's servers for translation. You must use your own DeepL API key. The API key is stored on your device using encrypted storage. Private OCR&Translate does not provide a shared DeepL API key.
DeepL's processing of your data is governed by DeepL's own terms and privacy policy.
4. Camera and images
The app may request access to your camera so that you can take a photo for OCR and translation. The app may also process images that you select or share with the app. Images are used to recognize and translate text. The app does not upload images to the developer's servers or save them on your device after processing.
5. Translation history
Translation history is stored locally on your device. You can manage or delete your history inside the app. Translation history is not sent to the developer.
6. Purchases
If the app offers paid features, purchases are processed through Google Play Billing. Private OCR&Translate does not receive or store your payment card details. Google Play may provide purchase status information required to unlock app features.
7. Data sharing
Private OCR&Translate does not sell user data. The app does not share your translation history with the developer.
Data may be sent to third-party services only when you choose to use a feature that requires it, such as DeepL translation using your own API key, or when Google Play services process purchases or app distribution features.
8. Backups
Sensitive local data, such as translation history, preferences, and cloud API keys, is excluded from Android cloud backups where supported by the operating system configuration.
9. Security
DeepL API keys are stored using Android encrypted storage. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but the app is designed to minimize unnecessary data transfers.
10. Children's privacy
Private OCR&Translate is not directed to children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. The updated version will be published at this URL with a new effective date.
